Acrylic paint is arguably one of the easiest mediums to work with, but it's not too easy to start if you don't know anything about it. This post is a checklist of four things you'll need to know when you start acrylic painting.
3. Acrylic Paint is Water-Based

Acrylic paint is water-based which means it is water soluble. This makes it a very easy medium to clean up, off your hands or off of a surface. This also makes it very easy to blend acrylic paint. By mixing the paint with a little bit of water the paint will thin out and you can easy blend and mix colors. However this also means the paint is not waterproof. This article does a great job of explain what acrylic paint is and what it is made of.
2. Materials to Paint on

Acrylic paint is thick and needs to be used on a thick material. Canvas, wood, or sometimes plastic works great. If you try to use acrylic paint on paper, it will seep through and can cause the paper to rip. This article gives a lot of good examples for materials to use acrylic paint on.
3. Acrylic Paint is Quick-Drying

Acrylic paint dries very fast, much faster than oil paint. This makes it a great medium to use for DIY or craft projects. This also makes it easier to clean up. This article compares the drying times of different brands of acrylic paint.
Acrylic paint is a great, multi use medium and is very easy to use once you learn the basics!
