The artist for the month of April is an old friend of mine, Sydney!
Introduction
Sydney is a Utah based artist who has lived all over the world. She grew up and lived in Honduras, Bolivia, and Mexico. I was introduced to Sydney in high school and we quickly became friends. Both scatterbrained artists who just wanted to create. Sydney would draw on everything, napkins, receipts, assignments, if it was paper she was going to draw on it. Over time these little practice sessions built up and her skills improved. She took art classes and took every opportunity she was given to create.
Pieces
Unfortunately, I don't own or have any pictures of Sydney's work but they are beautiful. One of Sydney's first big projects was a chalk board in a Boba shop near her college. One hot day, Sydney and I took a walk to get some Boba tea. When we entered the shop she noticed that they had a large blank chalk board behind the counter. She asked the worker about it and he revealed that it used to be their menu, but now they are looking for someone to do a chalk mural. She volunteered herself and showed them some of her work. They agreed to contract her and she created a beautiful themed mural. Although it was just white chalk, the piece turned out amazing.
The second large piece Sydney created was a mural on an RV. Her aunt had purchased an older RV and the paint was coming off and the white plastic had yellowed. She gave Sydney complete creative freedom with the RV so Sydney got to work. Sydney pained all four sides and the roof of the RV as a re creation of Van Gogh's Starry Night. The RV turned out beautiful and it looked even better when it was out in the wild.
Artists can be anyone and come from anywhere. Chances are, you know a pretty talented artist!
